I really do hate these kind of lists. They’re not fun to write, also time consuming and kind of pointless.
This started out as my hardest list to compose when trying to adhere to a minimum of ten films. But, hey, it’s my list. And besides, I’ve found myself connecting to a lot more movies this year than in 2012 (click here for last year’s list).
The fact that The Rambler is even on this list makes me question it's credibility.
ReplyDeleteSpring Breakers over Gravity? wha the!
ReplyDeleteNOW THIS IS A LIST OF THE BEST
ReplyDeleteBravo Idris!
This list feels like a warm hug.
ReplyDeleteHonestly surprised the list was so English-language heavy but otherwise pretty good...
ReplyDeleteThe Rambler was a crappy car and a crappier movie. It made no sense whatsoever. A complete waste of my time. How could you possibly put it on your list.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Rambler. Maybe I should never have rented this movie but the Netflix blurb suggested a road movie. About halfway through I suspected it may be some kind of acid trip or weird dream, but I felt exhausted and cheated by the end of the movie. It made no sense whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Before Midnight is so high on your list. Actually my best film of the year.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a great film. It's definitely my favorite movie of the year (well, that or Leviathan). It needs more love.
DeleteSome surprising picks! (Wassup, Mud!) I also enjoyed Wadjda and Fruitvale Station, as well as middlebrow fare like Rush. [EDIT: I had other fun experiences at the movies, like Side Effects, In The House and Much Ado About Nothing.]
ReplyDeleteHonestly, though, the one movie I saw multiple times in the theaters was... Pacific Rim.
